Rosie
Davis trained in textile design at the Liverpool College of Art in the
late sixties.
Her interest
in the ceramic designer Claris Cliff, lead to her developing her own
range of illustrated fine bone china. She started drawing mugs and plates
as special presents for family and friends. In the early nineties the
Wealden Wholefood shop in Wadhurst, East Sussex asked her to design and
paint china for their new café, this lead to commissions and the further
development of her work.
Her work can be seen every month at the Crowborough (fourth Saturday) and Uckfield (first Saturday) Farmer's Markets.
Rosie’s charming original drawings on bone china
are collectors’ items that will be cherished for many
years to come.
Each piece of bone china is individually drawn, painted and signed by
her making each piece unique.
Each drawing is made directly on to the glazed bone china using an old fashioned dip pen and a special on-glaze enamel ink. The piece is then fired in the kiln and cooled ready for painting. The painting is done in the traditional way, using on glaze enamels and fired again in the kiln to approx 720 degrees centigrade. This causes the on glaze enamel to mature and the original clear glaze to soften and seal the decoration into the surface leaving a high gloss permanent finish.
Because Rosie decorates each piece of bone china
individually, you can commission her to create pieces specially for you.
You might like her to incorporate a name, date, hobby or pets into the
drawing, commemorate a special occasion, or just write a special message
on the underside of your chosen piece.
Rosie has drawn all manner of things—Grandpas wearing football strips, great Grandad fishing, Nana baking, Dad gardening, Mum knitting, baby brother playing with pots and pans, a fairy who likes spiders and the like, little boys with dogs, pigs and kites! Tortoises, cats, snails all with names and special messages hidden underneath.
